Five Pieces to Get You From Winter to Spring

It’s about this time of year when we have our eyes firmly on the prize: Spring.

I think I can speak on behalf of all Victorians when I say we’re collectively over grey skies, cold days and winter clothes.

But there’s still a bit of Winter left to run.

For us fashion enthusiasts, it’s tricky too when fashion retailers are launching all their pretty Spring ranges.

I’m loving all the lace detailing and cold shoulder action coming through but it’s going to be a while before that’s weather approps around here.

On the upside, there are some Spring trends and pieces that are wearable now though, so if you’re looking ahead and ready to buy for Spring but don’t want to freeze, perhaps consider one of these options.

5 Spring Pieces You Can Wear Now

ABOVE: 1. Boxy Denim Jacket, $179 from Bohemian Traders; 2. Tencil Sleeve Frill Dress, $129.95 from Seed Heritage; 3. Abstract Jacquard Scarf, $59.95 from Seed Heritage; 4. Superga trainers, $89.95 from The Iconic; 5. High Rise White Skinny Jeans, $129.95 from Birdsnest.

1. Denim Jacket

As we slowly defrost, it’s likely we’ll still be reaching for a jacket for some time.

A denim jacket is great for layering over knits, skirts and dresses with tights and boots now, but come Spring, it’ll come in handy for cool mornings and evenings with boho frockery and sandals or your favourite striped dress and trainers.

Lighter and distressed styles like this Bohemian Traders jacket above, are my go to for Spring.

If you’re covered in the denim jacket department, you might like to check out these Ten Spring Jackets Under $100.

2. Flats

If you’re tired of your boots, you might consider investing in a comfortable pair of trainers, loafers or lace ups for Spring.

Wear them with jeans and knits now and with dresses, skirts or a tee and jeans come Spring.

There are loads of new styles around, with plenty of versions featuring on trend metallic accents, perforations and detailing.

I’m loving the new ranges from Rollie NationStyle Tread and Jo Mercer.

If you have a predominantly casual wardrobe and you’re after a style that will go with everything, a simple pair of white trainers like these Superga trainers above, is always a sure bet.

3. Scarf

While many of us go for a woollen scarf or snood in Winter, come Spring, scarves are made from lighter and soften fabrications making them less bulky while still providing some warmth.

They are also a great way to introduce colour and interest into any outfit.

I’m loving the new range at Sussan as well as this pretty jacquard style from Seed Heritage above.

4. Denim Dress

I’ve long sung the praises of the denim dress, especially for those of us who are looking for pieces that can be worn across both casual and smart casual scenarios.

I wear my denim dresses through winter with a fine merino knit underneath, a snood, tights and ankle boots.

Come Spring, I’ll wear mine with a pair of trainers or derbys and a fun pair of earrings for easy everyday style.

I’ve bought this new season chambray style above which is a bit different to the styles I already have. It’s a shorter, tunic length on me too so I’ll be wearing it with ponte pants now and with leggings and flats come Spring.

If you’re after a darker, longer and straighter style, try this Tie Denim Dress from Witchery.

5. White or Coloured Jeans

White jeans are a perennial Spring/Summer staple and with good reason.

They are effectively the equivalent of a black jeans in Winter in that they can be worn with anything and everything from coloured knits now through to printed and striped tops and tees come Spring.

I’m also a huge fan of a warm weather monochrome look based around a white pair of pants. It’s chic yet understated.

If you’ve not worn white jeans in winter before, check out this post by Sonia Styling for some styling ideas.

I’ve included a pair of jeans above but white wide legged pants or jeggings (like these) may be more up your alley.

Coloured jeans are making a welcome reappearance this Spring too. Check out the range here at Country Road.
