What to Wear on Christmas Day & New Year’s Eve

I think I’ve just come down from the craziest Christmas fortnight in recent history.

December is always a fun and celebratory time of year but with a December birthday thrown in the mix – mine is a week before Christmas – things tend to go up another notch around here.

In fact, I’ve been to a record – for me – number of Christmas parties and dinners over the last couple of weeks.

I know because I have the Instagram photos and laundry to prove it!

So instead of presenting styled outfits here for my final fashion post for the year, I thought I’d share outfits I’ve actually worn myself lately as they’re all current season. (In terms of the accessorising, if I can’t link to the exact item, I’ve tried to link to a current alternative instead).

I’ve worn relaxed, breezy and boho frocks as well as dressier, structured frocks. I’ve worn block coloured frocks as well as my usual quota of colourful printed dresses, so hopefully you’ll find some inspiration if you’re looking for something new to wear on Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve or whatever it is you have coming up.

You can also see how I’ve styled them and I’ve included sizing information to help if you’re ordering online. I’m happy to field questions on sizing in the comments below too.

Ok, so let’s begin my festive fashion round up.

I started off my fortnight of festivities with an end of year catch up for my bi-monthly/school mums book club. I felt super festive in red and loved the shape and style of this gorgeous dress, with it’s kimono sleeve and front split. It’s a neat, straight fit though, so I sized up to a 14. I can also see myself wearing this to work.

I’m wearing the Waist Tie Dress* $109.95 from Birdsnest in size 14 with Alyce Wedges* (sold out in tan but still available in navy and black or try this version from Jo Mercer) from Frankie4 Footwear and earrings from Bohemian Traders.

I wore this next outfit to my early family Christmas dinner at Mum’s house. This is SUCH an easy wearing, relaxed fit dress, perfect for big Christmas lunches with the beautiful contrast of cobalt blue and peach. This dress is cut on the generous side. I only chose a size 12 over a 10 for the extra room under the arms.

I’m wearing the Flora dress from Elm Lifestyle, $149.95 from Birdsnest (I bought mine from Fudge Gifts with a voucher I won) in size 12 with Alyce Wedges* (sold out in tan but still available in navy and black or try this version from Jo Mercer) from Frankie4 Footwear. Earrings and bag from Bali.

This pretty printed maxi was perfect for a Greek banquet dinner with the girls on Friday night. I love the tiered skirt and the lemon print said Mediterranean summer to me!

I’m wearing the Tiered Tropicana Maxi Dress, (currently reduced to $103.96) from Sportsgirl in size 12 with StyleTread espadrille wedges (this is a current alternative). My bag is from Mimco.

This next outfit was ideal for an extended family lunch. It’s a flattering draped jersey with the tulip shape hiding a multitude of Christmas sins! The longer length is a winner for us taller girls too and it’s hard to go past navy for summer.

I’m wearing the Sleeveless Tulip Dress in Navy from Birdsnest* (currently reduced to $69.95) in size 12 with Alyce Wedges (sold out in tan but still available in navy and black or try this version from Jo Mercer) from Frankie4 Footwear. Bag from Bali and earrings were a gift from a friend.

A pretty printed maxi was ideal for a visit to Santa. I adore a boho maxi at the best of times, let alone a pink one, so I couldn’t go past this winner in a recent storewide discount promotion.

I’m wearing the Dahlia Sundress  in Rose from Arhnem Clothing, $189 in size 14 with Havianas. Bag from Bali and old sunnies from Gorman.

I wore this outfit out for lunch with girlfriends on my birthday and then on to dinner with my immediate family. Yellow is a summer favourite of mine, and this new tencel/cotton blend fabric from Mister Zimi is a winner too. This dress is on the short side for me so I sized up from my usual 12 to 14 for the extra length.

I’m wearing the Sleeveless Tina Dress in Buttercup Geo from Mister Zimi, $140 in size 14 (I sized up for extra length) with Fantail sandals from Bared Footwear (current alternative here). Bag from Bali. Earrings from Adrift a few summers ago.

I can’t find the following two dresses online – they’re both current/recent styles though – so do check in store at Gorman and Seed Heritage respectively in store as you never know your luck.

Bling and colour seemed appropriate for my end of year book club dinner (for my other, monthly book club), accessorised with a book of course. This Beach Rocks Day dress by Gorman is so striking and colourful and the linen makes it a dressy but cool option for hot days.

I’m wearing the Beach Rocks Day dress in size 14 (it’s a neat cut) with Good Time Heels, both from Gorman. Terrazzo drop  earrings from Emily Green and bag from Coach, New York.

I wore this final outfit to my Donna Hay girls’ families Christmas dinner. As soon as I tried this Seed Heritage dress on, I was completely sold. This is such a flattering shape and style and I love the muted pink and red floral on white print.

I’m wearing a wrap maxi from Seed Heritage in size 14 with Alyce Wedges (sold out in tan but still available in navy and black or try this version from Jo Mercer) from Frankie4 Footwear and earrings from Bohemian Traders.
