Over the next four weeks, I’m lucky enough to be heading to the Sunshine State twice.
This week, I’m heading north for Problogger Event 2016 on the GC, which I can’t wait for.
Then, at the very end of the school holidays, we’re off to Noosa with my extended family for the final instalment of my Mum’s Festival of Seventy. (I come by birthday festivals honestly!).
With the very real possibility of beach weather not to mention an actual beach in my near future, I’ve been reviewing my beach dress situation.
I am a fan of the beach frock and you might not be surprised to hear that I have a pretty decent collection. Within that, I have several Adrift frocks which I’ve bought over the years and continue to come back to.
Why?
Well, they never date for a start. Their colourful prints say holiday, fun and beach in every language.
Then there’s their flowy and flattering properties, making them ideal for mild through to super hot days, not to mention withstanding fluctuations in weight which comes in handy post Winter.
So you can imagine my excitement when I was treated to a preview of Adrift’s Spring Summer 2016 range.
There were loads of great options to choose from, but in the end I settled on two trans-seasonal pieces, which aren’t quite in the beach wear department. They’re more in the relaxed but smart casual slash boho department but could be worn just as easily with a pair of flip flops and a top knot.
Here’s the first frock …
Isn’t this Josephine Dress the biz?
Made from a lightweight 100% Indian cotton voile, this pretty frock is a cotton silk embroidered peasant style dress with an
It feels just lovely as it flows and flatters while all the pretty details – the embroidered V neckline with tie detailing and the beautiful lace panelled peasant sleeves. Without the tie down up, the V is very deep – showing my bra situation anyhoo. Leave it open if you’re wearing togs perhaps or if you’re happy to show off your assets. Tied firmly though, as I’ve done below, and all you can see is a glimpse.
There are ties on either cuff too which can be left loose or tied to create a bell shape sleeve. The final touch is the double tiered hem which sits just above my knee.
Here’s a close up of the beautiful embroidery.
I’d wear this frock to lunch with the girls or a relaxed dinner out with the fam with a block heel or espadrille wedges. I’d also wear them with a simple pair of sandals or thongs and a denim jacket for easy everyday style.
It’s definitely on the generous side size wise too. I’m wearing a Medium and it’s roomy.
The second frock is this pretty Botanical Dress in Oriental Pink. I’m wearing the Medium. It also comes in black, if that’s more your style.
I do love a pretty print come Spring and this raspberry pink print packs a punch.
Made from a lightweight paisley printed cotton voile, this frock is cut on the bias for a more fitted look but it still skims, not clings.
Again, there are pretty details elevating this dress above many comparable offerings – this time a raw edge frill and tiered sleeves which gently flare.
The scoop neckline is the perfect depth too – not too high to be conservative but not too low either.
I’m happy to report this frock also has frockets slash pockets, which is always a good thing in my book!
Length wise, it’s longer than the Josephine dress above, finishing just below the knee.
