When it comes to Autumn frockery, I find it very hard to go past a floral maxi.
I have several such frocks in my wardrobe and I come back to them year after year and slowly add to my collection.
Why?
Well, with their sleeves and darker, more Autumnal colour ways, I find floral maxis are a handy addition to any smart casual wardrobe, especially at this time of year.
So far, I’ve worn mine to lunch with the girls, family celebrations (this was my Easter lunch outfit) and pretty much any other time I want a change from jeans or pants.
Here’s my latest addition – a budget friendly option from Boho Australia which I picked up at a local boutique.
If you’re looking for a new season option, update or perhaps a different style or colour way to add to your collection, you’ve come to the right place. For a similar style and price point to the dress I’m wearing above, head here.
If you’d like to see a wider range, below I’ve curated a selection of my fave new season styles across a range of price points. While some are dressier than others, all can be dressed up or down to cover a range of social scenarios.
ABOVE, LEFT TO RIGHT: Lily Wrap Dress, $39.95 from Dotti; Lily Wrap Floral Dress, $69.95 from Dotti; Skylar Maxi Dress, $139 from Birdsnest.
ABOVE, LEFT TO RIGHT: Flower Fields Kimono Wrap Dress, $189 from Bohemian Traders; Tulip Print Maxi Dress, $349 from SABA; Come and Go Long Dress, $349 from Gorman.
So how to style a Floral Maxi this Autumn/Winter?
1. A Classic Denim Jacket/Boots Combo – This is one of my favourite, go to combos. Simply add your favourite denim jacket and boots, some boho or long earrings and Bob’s your uncle. For a dressier look again, add a metallic or heeled boot as pictured above.
2. Add a Tan Block Heel – For milder days and more summery versions of the floral maxi, add an open toe shootie or block heeled sandal. A bold lip and fringed earrings or bag complete the look.
3. Dress Down With Trainers – If you’re looking for a new way to wear your floral maxi, try pairing it with your most comfy trainers and a top knot. The contrast works and is a comfy alternative to the usual jeans/pants and trainers combo.
Other Options
For an update on a black maxi, check out this gorgeous Evening Primrose Wrap Dress, $159 from Bohemian Traders.
If you’re after a shorter, floral dress to take you from work to Friday night drinks, I’m loving the Pussy Bow Soft Dress, $99.95 from Portmans and the Memento Dress, $299 from SABA.
If you’re looking for a beautiful statement skirt, this Gardenia Pleated Skirt, $99.95 from Portmans is a great option to pair with a simple fitted knit or jersey top.
For a modern take on florals, it’s hard to go past Mister Zimi’s latest range, The Escape. I’m especially loving the beautiful Trumpet Lily Nina Jumpsuit.
